Other Leaves of
Absence
Purpose of Process (see below how HRnetSource™ can help):
To provide employees with time off for reasons such as jury duty, military service, bereavement, etc., in a manner that is:
- Consistent, fair and equitable, and
- Supportive of company needs.
Recommended Steps in the Process:
- An employee requests a leave for reasons such as jury duty (see policy), military service (see
policy), bereavement (see policy),
etc., before the leave commences.
- Review the applicable policy and past practices and provide
guidance to the manager, as needed, in approving (or denying)
the leave request.
- Make arrangements for the employee to receive his/her paycheck
if one (or more) is issued during the leave.
- Check with the manager to determine if temporary help is
needed to replace the employee (see the Contract
Agency policy)
- If the leave is expected to last beyond two weeks:
- Notify other departments (e.g. Security, Payroll, Accounting, etc.) of the leave, if necessary.
- Note the employee's leave date and expected return date in a Leave of Absence log book.
- Check the log periodically. Call the employee to verify the expected return date. Communicate the status with the employee's manager.
- Upon the employee's return, note the dates of the leave in the employee's Personnel file.
